After experimenting with colour in the bright, vibrant backgrounds of Mexico (like here and here), it seems only natural to want to fit into one’s surroundings in terms of the way we dress. Straying from your own personal style simply for a week in the sun is probably the number one faux pas when it comes to building a holiday wardrobe. However, at the same time, it provides the perfect opportunity to be a little more adventurous and wear something that we might not normally wear – not because it is so far out of our comfort zone, but because our usual location would not normally call for such an outfit. As someone who is guilty of scrolling endlessly through swoon-worthy travel photos on Instagram and Pinterest, it is only reasonable to be swayed by the fashion to visit certain destinations – destinations where clothes can be just as beautiful as the scenery. So, with that in mind, I have put together a travel wishlist inspired by outfits seen on style bloggers there. Enjoy!
Stripes in Santorini
Beautiful white buildings against a navy-blue backdrop of endless sea call for an equally refreshing outfit – and there could not be anything more fresh – or flattering – than vertical stripes in breathable fabrics like linen and cotton. Off-the-shoulder playsuits, silky midi-dresses and cute playsuits… as long it’s striped, it fits perfectly into Santorini’s renowned backdrop. A bloggers’ paradise.
Romantic Dresses in Rome
To me, Rome is a city that’s understatedly romantic and, therefore, requires nothing but floaty, delicate dresses in lace or dainty prints. The cut of the dress doesn’t matter as long as it’s pretty and date-worthy – whether for an evening dinner with your love or a glass of wine with the girls. One that has been on my wishlist for a long time.
White in the Maldives
To many, the Maldives are synonymous with honeymoons and engagements so wearing all white is only logical 😉 With white being the coolest shade to wear on those hot, humid days in the tropics, outfits look – and feel – fresh and romantic against endless turquoise water and hundreds of palm trees. A truly dreamy escape.
Earthy Tones in Bali
At the mention of Bali, straw totes and relaxed, natural fabrics in an earthy palette come to mind. Khakis paired with clean whites, dusty shades in linen and, of course, beach waves are a staple and could not be more fitting to the tropical jungle surroundings of this beautiful, nature-centred island.
Above are just four of the places that have been at the forefront of my travel daydreams since forever, making the top of my wishlist thanks to the beautiful outfits inspired by these destinations. Hopefully, I will be able to tick off one of them in the near future. And if not, maybe I can just wear an outfit inspired by one of these places and pretend that I’m there…
Are you also inspired to visit certain places by the clothes you can envision wearing there?
